Time-Limited Promotions with Pre and Post Pages
Use Redirect by Date & Time to transition a single link from teaser to live to expired automatically.
The scenario
You're running a promotion with a defined start and end date — a summer sale, a product launch, a limited-time offer. You want to share a single link now, have it show a "coming soon" page before the start, redirect to the actual promotion while it's live, and land on a "sale ended" page after it wraps. All without manually updating anything.
How to set it up
1. Create a Redirect by Date & Time link
Go to the Redirect by Date & Time tool and set up three phases:
- Jun 1, 09:00 →
example.com/coming-soon(teaser page) - Jun 14, 23:59 →
example.com/summer-sale(live promotion) - Default →
example.com/sale-ended(post-promotion page)
The tool checks the current date and time against your thresholds. Before Jun 1, visitors see the teaser. Between Jun 1 and Jun 14, they see the sale. After Jun 14, they see the "sale ended" page.
Specify where users should be redirected to depending on the date & time they click on your link.
2. Share the link early
Set a custom URL like nimble.li/summer-sale and start sharing it immediately — in emails, social posts, ads, wherever. The link works right away; it just shows the teaser page until the promotion starts.
This means your link is already in people's bookmarks, inboxes, and browser history before the sale begins.
3. Let it run
There's nothing to do when the sale starts or ends. The transitions happen automatically based on the dates you configured. No one needs to update the link or swap a URL at midnight.
What visitors see over time
What you get
- Zero manual intervention — The link transitions between phases on its own. No cron jobs, no reminders, no risk of forgetting.
- One URL for the entire lifecycle — Share it once, and it stays relevant from announcement through to archive.
- Full analytics — See how many people clicked during each phase. A spike in clicks on the teaser page tells you there's interest before the sale even starts.
Variations
Multi-phase launches
You're not limited to three phases. Add more date thresholds for a multi-stage rollout: early-bird pricing → regular pricing → last-chance pricing → sold out.
Geo-targeted promotions
Stack a Redirect by Country link on top to run different promotions in different markets. US visitors see one sale, EU visitors see another — each with their own timeline.
Tracking campaign sources
Enable parameter forwarding so you can append UTM tags when sharing:
- Email blast:
nimble.li/summer-sale?utm_source=email - Instagram story:
nimble.li/summer-sale?utm_source=instagram
The parameters pass through to whichever page the visitor lands on, so your analytics tool attributes traffic correctly across all three phases.
