Updatable QR Codes on Product Packaging

Print a QR code once and update where it leads anytime — no reprinting needed.

The scenario

You're printing QR codes on product packaging, menus, flyers, or signage. Once printed, the QR code can't change — but the page it links to might. Maybe you need to update a setup guide, swap out a seasonal menu, fix a broken URL, or redirect to a newer version of a page. Normally, that means reprinting everything.

How to set it up

1. Create a QR Code link

Go to the QR Code tool and enter the URL you want the QR code to point to — your setup guide, product page, feedback form, or anything else.

QR Code

Generate a QR code from your URL and track every time it's scanned.

Create Link

2. Set a custom URL

Give the link a descriptive custom URL like nimble.li/setup or use your own custom domain: go.yourproduct.com/guide. This is the URL encoded in the QR code.

3. Download and print

Download the QR code as SVG for print (scales to any size without losing quality) or PNG for digital use. Put it on your packaging, manual, poster, or menu.

The key: the QR code encodes your Nimble Link URL, not the destination directly. This is what makes it updatable.

4. Update the destination later

When you need to change where the QR code leads, open the link in Nimble Links and update the destination URL. The QR code on the printed material stays exactly the same — it still points to your Nimble Link — but anyone who scans it now reaches the new page.

What you get

  • No reprinting — Change the destination as many times as you need. The printed QR code never needs to be replaced.
  • One QR code, many uses — The same printed code can lead to a setup guide today, a firmware update page next month, and a product recall notice if needed.
  • Scan analytics — See how many people scanned the code, broken down by country and device. Useful for understanding engagement with physical materials.

Examples

Product setup guides

Print a QR code on the box that links to a setup guide. When you release a new version of the guide or move it to a different URL, update the link — every box already shipped still works.

Restaurant menus

A QR code on the table links to today's menu. When the seasonal menu changes, update the destination. No need to reprint table cards.

Event signage

A poster for an event links to the registration page. After the event, update the destination to a recording, photo gallery, or feedback form. The poster that's still on the wall now serves a new purpose.

Recall or safety notices

If you need to redirect a product QR code to an urgent safety notice, you can do it immediately — every unit already in customers' hands gets the update the next time they scan.
