Will a colored QR code with a logo still scan?

Yes, as long as contrast is high and the logo fits within the built-in error-correction margin. QR codes have error correction built in — a portion of the code can be obscured and the code still decodes. When you upload a logo in the QR Code Designer, the designer raises the error-correction level so that covering the middle with a logo doesn't break the scan.

A few practical rules keep your branded QR reliable:

  • Keep foreground and background high-contrast. Dark foreground on a light background is the most forgiving combination. Avoid light-on-light or dark-on-dark.
  • Scan-test before a print run. Styled QRs are more sensitive to print resolution than plain ones. Scan the preview from a couple of angles on both iOS and Android before sending anything to print.
