How do I password-protect a link?
Open Tools > Password-Protected Link, enter the destination URL you want to protect, set a password, and click Create Link.
When someone visits your short link, they'll see a password form rather than being redirected. Only after entering the correct password will they land on the destination URL. You can customize how the password page looks — its theme, colors, and the surrounding copy — from the Design tab of the link's settings after creation.
To prevent brute-force guessing, password attempts are rate-limited to 5 per minute and 20 per hour per visitor. After that, the form rejects further attempts for a short cooldown period.
One caveat to be aware of: password protection gates access through the short URL, not the destination URL itself. Once a visitor enters the correct password, they're redirected to the real destination, and from that point they can copy, bookmark, or share that URL without any further check. Use this feature for casual access control — gating a press kit, a draft document, an early-access page — rather than as a substitute for proper authentication on a destination that holds genuinely sensitive data.
